The new Reeder is different, but I think I like it

The new Reeder is so interesting. It pulls in posts from different source types and ditches unread counts in favor of a position-synced timeline. The app’s developer, Silvio Rizzi, said in an FAQ, “I rebuilt it to make it the Reeder I enjoy using myself.” And now that it’s in the wild, people have strong opinions about it.

The basic thrust of complaints is that this new Reeder is not powerful enough. People who go hard on RSS feeds don’t like the lack of unread counts. People who go hard on podcasts think the listening features are too basic. People don’t like that audio, video, text, and image feeds are all combined in one interface. Some people are never happy.

The new Reeder is different, but I think I like it. I don’t follow a ton of feeds, and I don’t regularly listen to podcasts. This app lets me keep track of specific sites, channels, and accounts and decide if I want to dig in on a post or pass. Podcast listening position is synced, too, so I can easily switch between Mac and iPhone.
